Similarities and differences
Through this exercise, you get to know the puzzle pieces, which are the base for all the the ways to play HARMONY. It is good to do this exercise before moving on to any of the other ways to play HARMONY.
You can use any of the HARMONY BOXES: GOODNESS (burgundy), RECEPTIVITY (orange), SINCERITY (blue), HUMILITY (green) to play.
You will need to pay attention to detail to discover the similarities and differences and understand how two pieces can have all the same parts but be different.
Exploration & Reflection

1. Start by emptying the cards onto a plat surface. Take a moment to discover the different designs on the puzzle pieces.
Sort all the 101 puzzle pieces into piles, each pile containing all puzzle pieces with the same pattern.
How many different piles of puzzle pieces did you make?

If you are sorting GOODNESS, (Coming soon) you should have 18 piles. If you are sorting RECEPTIVITY, SINCERITY or HUMILITY, you should have 8 plies.
If you made fewer or more piles than this, recheck your sorting.
Which puzzle pieces were easy to identify as the same? Why?
Which puzzle pieces were more difficult to sort? Why?
What did you notice to help you sort them correctly?

RECEPTIVITY, SINCERITY or HUMILITY: When you have finished sorting, you will have 8 piles. One containing just one piece, 5 piles containing 12 puzzle pieces, and two piles containing 20 pieces.
2. Sort the piles that you have made into four different categories:
One centre-piece, all its sides are the same regardless of how you rotate it.
Pieces that have a symmetrical pattern.
Pieces that are two sets of mirror images.

3. Take a mirror and explore what happens if you place and rotate each puzzle piece with one side touching the mirror.

With a hinged mirror, place one puzzle piece at a time in the right angle centre/corner point. Observe the pattern created in the mirror and how it changes each time you rotate the puzzle piece.
